Seeger’s acquisition of the German-made Luger is described in paragraph 84. The gun represents a victory for him and a symbol of justice (paragraph 121), and it also represents a possible armed response to anti-Semitism (paragraph 122). As a means of gaining the $65.00 that would permit the men to have a good time, it is potentially a source of conflict between Seeger and his friends. The climax of the story (paragraphs 141-48) occurs when Seeger decides to sell the gun; it causes the resolution which is the story’s major act of faith.
