Walter expects the money will help to make his dream come true to be his own boss by owning a business. Beneatha is hoping the money will pay for her to go to medical school. Mama hopes to buy a house where everyone won't be so crowded, and she can have a garden. Ruth hopes her marriage to Walter will get better.
