What are the symptoms of stroke?

A stroke or CVA, cerebrovascular accident may have many different signs or symptoms. Among the S/S are extreme headache, neurological deficits such as slurred speech, weakness in a arm or leg, trouble walking, talking or seeing. Hemiparesis, one side of the body is paralyzed. You could also have numbness, tingling, or a pin prick sensation in your fingers or toes. The type and severity of the S/S will depend on which specific area of the brain is involved because different ares of the brain are responsible for different functions.

There are many causes of CVA, with uncontrolled hypertension (high BP) being the number one factor. If you think someone is having a stroke, call emergency services at once. Different types of CVA are treated differently and time spent getting to the hospital is vital. Some treatments have a definitive time line. In other words, depending upon how long you have had the S/S varied treatment options are available to the patient.
