I do not have the story sitting in front of me, but as I
recall, there are tons of totally disgusting similes and metaphors regarding blood,
pain, guts, and taste sensations ("they taste like lady fingers" is one particular quote
I remember, as the "survivor" is cutting off his body parts and eating them to survive).
If you have the story, you should look through it to find similes, metaphors and images
- there is a lot of blood and guts.
The story is about a
doctor who is marooned on a deserted island with no food or supplies. All he has is some
drugs he has been smuggling. He winds up eating various body parts to survive, and to
deal with the pain, he takes the drugs. As the story progresses, he becomes more and
more incoherent, because he is on drugs, so the writing style is unique in that it
deteriorates from narrative (he is writing in a diary) into a type of rambling, stream
of conscious thought that often does not make sense.
