What was Mr. Carlson's reaction to the news about his son in That Was Then, This Is Now? What did Cathy think?

Mr. Carlson is shocked when he first sees M & M because the drugs have had such a profound effect on him. He had thought M & M was just going through a phase and that he would be back home after he got it out of his system. This obviously wasn't true.

Cathy is also shocked at what the drugs have done to M & M, and the doctor tells her he may never be the same after using LSD. Bryon is very supportive of her during this time and helps her to get through the ordeal.
